At least 5 years experience operating at a senior management level within a medium to large-sized organization including previous experience in the LG Sector.
Sound track record in managing complex stakeholder relationships and a well-developed lobbying and advocacy skillset
Previous management experience in a multidisciplinary unit is desirable; Previous experience in developing and implementing strategy is essential.
Understanding of relevant strategic, government policy and regulatory directives (International, national and provincial)
In-depth understanding of Local Government Sector, challenges and mandates
Knowledge of the Mapumalanga business and sustainability requirements
Understanding of project/ programme management principles

As part of the senior leadership team, the Provincial Director of Operations (PDO) will be required to have a sound understanding of the sectors and professional disciplines applicable to its mandate; and legislative frameworks and new developments impacting on SALGA to ensure informed decision making.
The incumbent is expected to have experience in managing across multi-disciplinary functions and to have a sound understanding of all disciplines and sectors, and to lead and direct professionals (Advisors and Senior Advisors) with sound to in-depth knowledge and expertise in their respective sectors and professional disciplines. A high level of emotional maturity and sound business acumen and political savvy is required in this role.
